Microsoft dictates how netbooks can be configured, why would any other computer be any different?

To be honest, Microsoft is abusing their monopoly far more than they ever had in the past. Choosing your browser for you is small potatoes compared to dictating what hardware you can and cannot buy. Personally, I'm building all my own desktops from here on out just to avoid this kind of crapola. Too bad laptops are so hard to build.

I too will be building my desktops ... in fact I built one just last year. Previously I got them pre-configured because my parents were paying and they didn't trust me.
