Would be a second option in a vast array of office suites we already have in Linux

Microsoft will never release Office for Linux for one simple reason: It would legitimise Linux on the desktop... And that goes against the grain of their corporate goals.

Let's not forget that they stopped their, "Core fonts for the Web," project as soon as they figured out that Linux users were downloading and using the fonts in Linux.

Functionally there is little difference between the Linux office suites and Office anyhow. I would use Libre Office at work if they allowed it.

Microsoft never had any plans to release Office for Linux. That was an outright lie that Phoronix fabricated out of whole cloth.
