acp is copy with a progress bar... you can do 'pv file /destination/file' for that.

My only concern is that the success of *nix is built on the philosophy of basic, composable scripts. Any time a program tries to achieve too many goals it becomes difficult to achieve what you want. But yes for years I've wished cp of a big file would have a progress meter.
