The problem is that many people are behind new ideas and products. The claim that a faceless corporation owns this is not always true. People like me have worked on ideas for decades and have worked to bring ideas to market. Should I now loose all of my investment? Shouldn't I be protected for a reasonable time? Do my heirs deserve to get the fruit of my labor? I'll agree that after some time the public should be rewarded for protecting my inventions. If the original time was 20 years when a normal man dies at 30 then 50 to 70 years now isn't too far off from historical rational.
