Now that the Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Cinnamon and MATE flavors have been released, the users of the previous version have been given a green light for the upgrade.

I upgraded from Linux Mint 17 this way:
Code:
sudo sed -i 's/qiana/rosa/' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo sed -i 's/qiana/rosa/' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
No issues.
