I am not sure if I find that surprising. The Catalyst 12.6 Legacy drivers were released on 24th of July, more than three months (or half a development cycle) before the release of Ubuntu 12.10. Nonetheless neither the developers got this straight nor the QA department noticed this. No mentioning at all of ATI/AMD in the whole "Known Issues" section of the release notes (except a minor problem with ACPI on some ASUS machines).

So they didn't get this fixed (or didn't even notice that there might be a problem), but rather changed the bootloader to a whole new version during the beta phase (may be someone should explain to the Ubuntu developers the meaning of "beta phase").
What does this tell me about the quality of Ubuntu in the whole?
