LXer: TrueCrypt Not Dead, Forked and Relocated to Switzerland

The development of TrueCrypt, an open source piece of software used for on-the-fly encryption, has been terminated and users have been advised not to use it because it is not secure enough. Now, it seems that another team of developers have forked the software and rebased it in Switzerland.

That's good. Truecrypt is needed for cross-platform encryption. I don't use it currently, but I have used it in the past and it should not die, like the site says.

Uhm, if the official story is true and Truecrypt was shut down because it contained show-stopping vulnerabilities, then those vulnerabilities would be present in the fork, no?

When the audit is finished they can be fixed ... but I have a feeling this is not why truecrypt was shut down.

Can the NSA operate in Switzerland ... hopefully not.
