God… there's so much you have to know in order to do anything. Like the command line, for instance."
Seems command line became a hacking/cracking/security/forensic tool....
LOL..... it just a rave...

If I do not use libreoffice, I shouldn't install any distro that shipped with it....
If I'm not a painter, I shouldn't install Gimp, well?

Keep your child far from kitchen, because there are knives and forks, it may be unsafe.
Just imagine that your child will shove a fork in your eye, it's terrible...
Kitchen isn't for minor/newbie

Hi guys

I must admit that I can understand what you are saying but if I remember correctly the best way for someone to learn is by making mistakes its how you recover from them that defines you. I am very much of the mindset that you should not critize someone for being new and not doing it the way that would make most sense. Everyone is different. That is why some people do poorly in mainstream education and others excel. This is why education has so many different schools of thought on how best to teach someone.

How can we critise when for example the guys at Tek Syndicate alluded to the fact first time they used linux was when they were nine and had no idea what they were doing or installing on a router but they learnt more in that time than in any other way. They didn't have the internet or forum post or guides to help them out massively. They learnt by doing which usually results in a bit of destruction

Don't take this the wrong way but if someone wants to learn there is no lesson like losing everything to make you more wise and if they don't learn well we can only hope evoloution sorts that problem out.

I've played with Kali a bit. Even for someone who is competent using Linux, Kali is a challenge; it's toolset is a whole new learning curve.

Kali is not designed for persons new to Linux, nor is it suitable for desktop use. Someone could become quite adept at using Kali's pen testing capabilities (I'm not) and still not know beans about using Linux for the desktop or for the server.

If someone who wants to learn how to use Linux decides to start with Kali, he or she certainly can, but I'd recommend against it.

Linux Voice recently posted a nice intro to using Kali: https://www.linuxvoice.com/hacking-a-beginners-guide/
