this of course says the opposite of what Seagate apparently did. But then the article does a poor job of saying what Seagate actually did.....

How do you know seagate did do something like that ? maybe the article is wrong?

btw, the article didn't open for me ...

but I really doubt that a HDD manufacturer will stop support for linux.

Infact does the brand of HDD really matter .. if I am using SATA , I am using SATA .... even if I create my own HDD it should still work, right ?

A quick Google using "seagate linux" gives a bit more insight, but I had a hard time getting to the "kernel of truth"
