I was about to think "since when have scientific operating systems needed eye candy?" but then recalled that hey, OS X has indeed been in the field for some time and offers, for those who want, some eye-candy as well... :D

Now that I'd like to see. 10 years support not only means a huge amount of work put onto one single distribution version over the years, but also constant tracking of what's going on and how it affects that operating system. And if they wanted to get people use that, they'd have to create a new version every now and then in any case (if not for anything else, for newer scientific tools to be available). That means they'd soon have quite a few distribution versions to maintain, which is a huge project especially if you don't get a lot of coins for it. Not to mention that for some it might be a little difficult to motivate themselves to maintain well a distribution that is nearly ten years old and whose users might be fairly sparse. If they intend to keep that promise, I'll have to raise my hat to them...good luck with that. |
