LXer: Raspberry Pi private cloud

Published at LXer:

The themes of a lot of our Raspberry Pi guides revolve around the size and portability of the Pi itself, lending it to tasks you may have used a full-sized or small computer for in the past that the Pi can now take over. Having your own private cloud is another excellent use of the Raspberry Pi’s capabilities, because you can store it hidden away somewhere and it will require very little day- to-day maintenance.

I can't be the only one who is sick of seeing "cloud" used constantly simply because it's fashionable?
"cloud" is, of course, a marketing term meaning simply "stored somewhere else an accessed over a network" but at least the marketing people who invented the term did so to signify something over the internet (the cloud picture in MS Visio diagrams) which was in a data centre somewhere with the possibility of some redundancy.
This isn't even "cloud" in the above marketing rubbish sense it's just a computer stuffed in a corner which may or may not be dead due to not surviving the latest power cut and might or might not then be accessible from the internet depending upon the whims of the domestic ISP used.
If the marketing teams who invented "cloud" are deceitful and annoying the people jumping on the bandwagon with nonsense like this are even worse.
