It seems to be the one thing that no one wants to talk about. When there is a virus reported for Linux or any of the other Unix varieties, it gets patched in days at the most. There are viruses for Windows that they have been known for years and they have yet to patch them.
I just don't get it.

It's the difference between open and closed source I'm afraid. Closed source vendors have less incentive to fix problems because, hey, the upgrade is on sale next month. OS programmers are usually contactable and invest a lot of their time and themselves in projects and care that it works.
That's why the community rocks!
