LXer: Oh So That’s Why OpenOffice Isn’t As Good As MS Office

Published at LXer:

Those of you who have ever tried OpenOffice (and Linux folks probably make up the majority) have to admit that it’s nice, but not nearly as feature rich as it’s market leading cousin Microsoft Office. Not only that, it’s damn ugly in comparison (it reminds me of the old Office 6.x, the one you used to install from 30 floppies back in 1994). Well after reading an article in Computer World, I now “know why:”

It's an important but yet one person opinion

I must say that I am not what you would call a "superuser" of OpenOffice or Microsoft products for that matter. But the ability to run a business where you can use the same product under Windows or Linux is very advantageous. In addition the ability to export to any format including word or pdf is worthwhile. In regards, to mail servers, we tend to use our ISP mail service (small company). We don't use MAC and to be honest, office suite tools are basically only "bread and butter"- to be so avid about a tool suite which should do basic work, I believe is a ridiculous attitude. Case in point for you Historians - How many of you remember Microstar or something like that (I can not even remember). But what I do remember is it was a good word processor until they tried to make it work for the superuser forgetting that 80 to 90% of us just wanted to type letters and don't do massive mailings or Journals. So with that set, my business runs Openoffice because it is flexible enough for what we need to do. That is all!

Code:
or read files in the Office Open XML document format used by Office 2007
This was meant as a joke, wasn't it?
