It has been widely reported that the Navy is insisting on using Windows XP, but what cannot be talked about enough are the security implications of this... an upgrade to either a newer version of Windows or to some Linux or other open-source option would make things vastly more secure for the sections of the Navy...

they are still in the mind set of building
the ANALOG fire control computer in USS Wisconsin BB-64 for the 16 in guns

now it is BUILT INTO the ship and is PART of the ship

I remember when every time I traced the headers of a spam message, it turned out to have passed through the U.S. Navy at one point.

You may not know they still used HP Basic (yes, BASIC) to launch cruise missiles.

As to what the Navy does with the OS is hard to tell. They did have some special built crypto safe computers that ran xp. It's unlikely that any of these are connected to any network.
