Linux Firefox users can say a eulogy for EULA (End User License Agreement). After much pressure, Mozilla is removing the EULA from the Firefox welcome screen on Linux distributions, according to a recent Mozilla blog by Harvey Anderson, VP and general counsel of Mozilla.

Finally, Mozilla wakes up. I've never understood why so many OSS software vendors (OpenOffice, are you listening?) force me to accept a EULA that has absolutely no impact on me. I recently came across a GPL program that has a EULA to accept the GPL. When I pointed out the nonsense to the authors, the reply I got back indicated they had no idea how the GPL actually worked.

Wake up authors, unless you have a EULA that is forcing some conditions on the end user, EULAs are Microsoft-think.

I've never seen a welcome screen from Firebox and especially not a EULA. Oh, that must be because I bring down my network before I fire up a new browser so I can get rid of all the crap I don't want like their preset homepage, bookmarks, etc.
