LXer: Microsoft's anti-Linux whisper game

Published at LXer:

Well, Microsoft never committed to play fair. The company has entered into two more patent agreements with Fuji and Samsung, as reported by Matthew Aslett. As ever, Microsoft doesn't actually say there are any IP infringement problems with Linux (there aren't, at least, no more than Microsoft has in its own products), but rather uses these cross-licensing deals, innocuous and common in and of themselves, to hint at IP infringement. I suspect that Microsoft's intentions go well beyond Linux. They are trying to tie themselves into diverse industries, all of which are tied into the "digital lifestyle." Microsoft wants a piece of all media "action," whether it be computer-related, entertainment-related (music, movies, camcorders, etc.), or distribution-related (downloads, subscriptions, etc.).

I think they are close to breaking down (i.e. limited years left) and want to have as many 'friends' to help keep them up in the spotlight.
