Back in 2005, I actually liked gimpshop. Since they brought out the "one window" option, I no longer feel it's necessary to try to make it look and act just like photoshop. Having all the controls in a single window is enough for me. How I hated trying to keep track of the extra windows in gimp, the "one window" was the single best thing that ever happened to gimp IMO.

I like GIMP the way it is.

I tried the "one window" option and it left me, if not cold, at least chilly. Maybe that's because I never used Photoshop, so I had nothing to unlearn.

Just my two cents.

For me it's not so much using Photoshop, it's that the default multi-window configuration always left me looking for windows. I hated it. My pictures would cover windows, then I'd have to set and search and reconfigure everything. Just so much more sane to have it all in 1 window to me.

For some reason, that's not been an issue for me. Maybe it's because I use Fluxbox; I look in the taskbar and can find them easily. Or maybe it's just because I'm used to it. Or maybe it's because I'm scatterbrained and can find scattered windows.

Again, just my two cents. Whatever works for you, that's my motto.

with 2.8 you have the option

the one window or not is a bit like the gnome2 VS gnome3 debate

the GOOD thing is that you can use what you like
