According to a recent Google+ post, Linus Torvalds has teased us with the release of Linux kernel 5.0, which should happen when the project reaches 6 million Git objects.

What ever happened to major releases based on the actual quality of code, and major architectural changes, rather than some arbitrary milestone? The whole major anniversary thing was fine with the 3.0 release... but now this is getting absurd.

Agreed. They should have simply left the version at 3 and increased the release number by one from then on. Arbitrarily bumping to V4 was a mistake, bumping to 5 just compounds this nonsense.
