All this is not to say that either Canonical and Ubuntu are about to disappear overnight. Any decline is just beginning, not at the point of no return. The introduction of new faces, or even determined internal reform could still turn Canonical and Ubuntu around. Perhaps listening to the Ubuntu community would be useful as well.
I find the bolded part interesting, does the person who wrote this first article think they have found something the rest of the "old" Ubuntu user base did not know already? From 10.04, that I am aware of (as a tester) and 7.04 as a normal user, Canonical was not listening to its userbase, they are about to release 13.10. Nothing has changed in at least 3.5 years (if not 6.5 years). Now someone writes what many people knew already (and even said it on UF the entire time I was a user) on a website and they think Canonical is going to start caring?

Ubuntu won't disappear but I doubt it will return to its heyday.
