LXer: Is the NSA Targeting TOR?

Published at LXer:

If you're new to the world of tech freedom, TOR is supposed to be a safe zone, a sanctuary. Among other things, it offers a way to surf anonymously. Governments hate it because the bad guys can use it as a way to evade detection. Digital freedom fighters like it for the same reason.

I would ask the question in a very different way. How long has the NSA been monitoring Tor traffic, and how much of it can they not monitor ? I'm thinking they can monitor almost all of it.

with a large amount of the nodes under LEA control .It would be possible to work out traffic patterns and IP's of users ,but not in real time

add in DPI on the lightly encrypted traffic to determine what it is ,and after a bit you might be able to "connect the dots" and match up ip's with data .

but really the only people that might be able to do this is the state
but this here is REALLY the PROBLEM !!!
