Yes it's a definetly a good idea. With it new systemd less linux can be made. It's good for those who don't want systemd abtract out all nitty grits of a system.

I like to boot with my own small, simple and functional scripts. It's good for learning and work. Otherwise it would become like Microsoft Windows which abstracts all simple tasks and gives a fixed interface to interact and work. And all computer/software details hidden from computer user. I chose linux just for me controlling the hardware and software. And even Linux also abstracts things out.
