i updated a few days ago without a hitch:

sudo yum update yum
sudo yum --releasever=20 distro-sync
sudo shutdown -r now

there was a yum bug
as in the yum rpm was broken
the old fedora 20 BETA yum rpm needed to be downgraded to the version in 19
that was fixed .
