No. The people who forced him out are the real bigots!

Good riddance. Leaders should be held to a high standard.

While I agree with "good riddance", I'm actually with cwizardone on this. Demanding that someone be denied employment because he/she hold certain personal political views isn't cool with me.

Good point that politics should be left out of the workplace, I will have to reflect on this further. What did you make of all the tweets from disgruntled employees asking him to step down?

True. We all grumble about our bosses from time to time. Social media makes it so public...

I think if all of the witch-hunters had read BE's post https://brendaneich.com/2014/03/incl...ss-at-mozilla/ before getting their torches lit over a donation that was made 2 years ago and further stirred up by sites like OkCupid and others who supported that sort of thing, this might have been avoided. Those guys were out for blood rather than a greater cause, and got it - and nothing else.

What's the right thing to do when a lot of angry people don't want to stop for five minutes and try themselves to be as considerate as they wish the person who they're bullying wasn't two years ago? Seems awfully hypocritical.

There's something that happened a few months ago that, IMHO, is very comparable. The game development team for a certain Kickstarter-backed videogame hired a new community manager. The backers (or people who claimed to be backers) started loudly demanding that she be fired, before she'd even started. Why? She was a "feminist", a "social justice warrior" (this is a meme popular on a very infamous image board). People who tried to disagree were shouted down. A half-hour long video, made for the purposes of character assassination and researched by scouring her Internet history, was widely circulated. Many of those involved in this witch hunt actively cited the aforementioned image board. And when bloggers posted accurate information about this, their comments instantly filled up with cries of "yellow journalism" and with link after link to that video---it was obvious that the campaign involved closely-monitored Google alerts, used to seek out and suppress criticism. When "asking" didn't work, they started threatening to demand refunds, and when demanding refunds didn't work, they started threatening to do chargebacks. (As far as I know, the campaign to remove her was not successful).

The principle that no-one should be denied a position for holding personal political views applies, equally, in both cases.
