LXer: Custom firmware on PS3, Linux on Slims? GeoHot fights back

He takes one final swipe at the company in the blog post. "Note to the people who removed OtherOS, you are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into 'hackers.' There was a huge(20x) traffic spike to this blog after the announcement of 3.21. If I had ads on this site I guess I'd be thanking you."
I agree, Sony made an a$$ of itself by first disabling the "other OS" feature from the slim models, then taking it off from the original models as well; even worse, I recall they mentioned in the past that it would "never happen" (apparently their "n/ever" is quite short a time).

The downside of this is that because new (official) updates get released fairly frequently, the custom firmwares are never quite as good. For example those I've seen for PSPs do give more freedom than the official one, but are always lacking in the newest official features. And it's extra work of course.

Somebody ought to have sued Sony for disabling major functionality that people have actually paid for (I know some tipped for PS because of "other OS" functionality).
