Google is evil. I switched away from Gmail several years ago when it became clear to me that Google is evil. I stay away from anything made by them, including the search engine, mail, browser, etc. If you care, look into all of them and discover all the ways they have of tracking you.
It's too late now tho. Google is too large to die now, one more evil monopoly.
