I'm sure it is loaded with malware. Should I waste my time checking to see if this is true, or just forget about it and do something more productive ?

Forget about it. It's just another gubmint gimmick to mess with your mind.

Or track you while also making you think you are "Anonymous".

BTW, Anonymous and anonymous are antonyms.

Is anonymity really possible on the 'net?

Some excerpts from an article on the bbc.

The "official" Anonymous group has distanced itself from the software.

In a widely circulated tweet, AnonOps claimed the operating system was riddled with viruses

Soon after the operating system became available, the AnonOps account on Twitter posted a message saying it was fake and "wrapped in trojans".

The creators of the OS denied it was infected with viruses adding that, in the world of open-source software, "there were no viruses".

After downloading and running the software, Rik Ferguson, director of Trend Micro's European security research efforts, said it was "a functional OS with a bunch of pre-installed tools that can be used for things like looking for [database] vulnerabilities or password cracking".

Mr Ferguson said he was starting work to find out if there were any viruses or booby-traps buried in the code.

Be careful but being paranoid is silly, you are on the internet afterall, nothing you do is truly anonymous in cyber space.

Several Anon twitter accounts have all said it has malware in it and not to use it.

Not totally but you can sure as heck try.

Anon does have some useful info, and not the bad/hacking kind, in their Care Package.

I think they have done the right thing.

Too bad for the 40,000 people that were dumb enough to download it. Now the FBI/NSA has a wide open door into their PC.
