YaST2 stopped working after online update

Hi, all. Hoping someone can help here...

I've just done an online update, which included kernel and (I think) YaST patches. Following this, I tried to connect again to the update site to see which patches were still to download (I had disabled some, as they were causing downloading to pause apparently indefinitely). When I tried this, the YaST control centre opened, but the online update module would not.

I have restarted the PC, and tried opening several of the modules. I get a timer icon/pointer for a few seconds, and then nothing (including no error messages). Trying to open YaST on the command line gives me the following:

Reinstall and re-run the Update Online but choose to update only one package at a time and see which one breaks YaST.

Obviously, re-installing is an option, but I was hoping someone could come up with a less drastic solution.

You may try first to repair with the installation CD. Reboot with it and choose to repair rather than to reinstall. If that doesn't work, you have no choice but to reinstall after backing up what is important on your machine.
If the repair process works re-run YOU and choose to update only one package at a time. And check if YaST stays intact. At least you will find where the problem comes from.
Hope you will solve this problem.

You can also delete and reinstall Yast2.
delete yast2: on console (runlevel 3): rpm -e yast2*
reinstall yast2: mount cd/dvd, which contains yast2 packages, and reinstall yast2 packages by rpm -Uhv yast2*, then cd /sbin and execute Suseconfig by ./SuSEconfig and reboot.

Thanks for the guide to how to do this. I had thought of re-installing YaST, but didn't know how without YaST!.

I'll try it, as soon as I've backed up all my data.

Yast2 is just a RPM-package.
Have a look in man rpm or info rpm (on console) for further details.
