Yast not configuring NIC

hi all,
I partitioned a windows computer and installed suse 9.1 , for some reason YAST is not configuring the ethernet card. under windows DHCP works fine.

when i type /etc/ifconfig , i get information about 'lo' only. during boot it is not able to find the interface for ethernet card.

Yast recognises the NIC as ATI Ethernet controller. it also shows Other(not detected)

any suggestions ?

thanks
arnott

First thing I would suggest is jump to 9.3 - it has much better support for almost everything. :)

Second - what NIC do you have?

hi

thanks for the reply.

the NIC is

Broadcom Gigabit1 Network Connection with support for Remote Wake Up and Alert Standard Format (ASF 1.0) (from dell manual)

windows calls it Broadcom Netstreme 57xx Gigabit controller

Thanks

the driver is missing ?

Though I have minimal experience, from what I understand, broadcomm drivers for linux are flaky at best or non-existent. You might try using an ndiswrapper for your driver. wont' be as fast, but it'll do.
