Yast allows defaults my volume to 0

Whenever I reboot or start my laptop, the sound is at 0 in KAMix and in YaST the volume for Master = 0 and PCM =0.

How can I set this to lets say 80 and keep the setting.

You didn't say what version of SuSE and KDE you are running, so I can't for certain tell you which GUI menu to work under. However, if you open a terminal session after adjusting the mixer settings to your liking and do the following:

su to root
type in "alsactl store"

That should save your levels on the next reboot.

This would be SusE 9.1 running KDE 3.3
I'll try what you said and post back
