Xgl boots to blank screen with x1400 gateway laptop

i have installed the fglrx driver and it works perfectly on my gateway nx570xl laptop. i installed beryl, xgl, and all that jazz, and set it up
when the comp boots up, it tries to start X, and fails, sometimes saying that it failed, and sometimes just going to a black screen. if i ctrl alt backspace to reboot vt7 and 8, X will go ahead and boot up on my DISPLAY=:1 (vt8), saying that :0 is in use, and then beryl will work beautfully.

is this problem attributed to the external vga port on my laptop, or what??? i cant find gdm.conf (depreciated)?, and nowhere in /etc/sysconfig/display to change where Xgl boots up.

i really want this to work from bootup, because my 10.2 experience up to this has been ridiculously awesome. thanks for any and all help given

gabe
