wlan0 missing

I have installed Suse 10.1 on my c400 laptop, it's found the wiresless mini-pci card after installing ipw-firmware but wlan0 isn't showing up.
I have checked wlan.conf and the wireless card is set to wlan but cannot view it or activate it by ifconfig / iwconfig / ifup

Can any one point me in the right direction

Have you loaded the driver for it?
Do you know which driver this card requires?

Do you use ndsiwrapper? or is that just for slackware?

You need to provide more specifics on which wireless device you have. Use the "lspci -v" command in the console. Then check the HCL list on this site to determine the driver you need.

If you are using the correct driver, try modprobing the driver. Then use the "lsmod" command and see if the module is loaded. You may also need an alias for your device in modprobe.conf.

I use ndiswrapper and it looks like:
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
