wlan starting wlan without yast

I have successfully installed ndiswrapper on Suse 10.
However, the general Yast route (wireless module "ndiwswrapper" etc) does not seem to work.
I had the same stick set working on knoppix (debian derivate) with iwconfig and ifup, editing the /etc/network/interfaces file.

However I can not find the equivalent files in Suse. In Suse10 i started playinjg with /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0, but ifup did not run properly.
Any ideas?
