Wireless worked in 10.0 but not 10.1

I just finished installing SUSE 10.1 on my laptop. I am very pleased with most things except for wireless support. In 10.0, my wireless rt2500 worked right out of the box, no configuration required. In 10.1, my card is not even detected. I can manually install the card, but I really appreciated the instant functionality in 10.0. Does anyone know the status of the wireless support in SUSE 10.1?

My PCI card wasn't picked up in 10.1 either, even though it was in 10.0. I don't know why they dropped these wireless cards.

I have the same problem with Intel 2100 card (module ipw2100).

I have installed the Firmware, but I need to install ieee80211 and ipw2100 packages, which are failing.

Also I am not sure if my fan is working right.

I think it sounds like it's on.. but once I force it on, I can really hear it.. But I don't know if forcing it on, makes it run at a faster speed then the thermal stuff..

With KDE 3.5.1, I have KDE Extra's installed, but don't have SuperKaramba.... Grrr.. whats up with 10.1 lol

I just checked the SUSE 10.1 documentation and it says that the rt2500 chip is supported, but it doesn't seem so.

Yep, I added a new interface in the network devices module. On the next screen I choose Wireless, PCMCIA, etc. The thing is though, in SUSE 10.0, I didn't have to do that. The interface ra0 was automatically created for my card.

Are you people reporting these bugs? If not, you definitely should. I'm not sure what's up with the suse developers, but they over-looked quite a few things.

I want to confirm that this really is a bug before I report one. Though it's not likely, for all I know, SUSE 10.1 isn't supposed to automatically detect rt2500 chips.

EDIT: I just found out that this is not a bug. Read this thread: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=24740

SUSE uses the SerialMonkey drivers for rt2500 chips, and the only SerialMonkey drivers available right now are beta, so they cut support.

I was able to install mine, but unlike when I installed 10.0, I had to install the ipw2100 firmware in YaST (in 10.0 it detected my wireless, and installed the needed firmware, but in 10.1 it didn't).

I believe the firmware for you will also need to be installed, so in YaST install the package named: raconfig which includes the rt2500 wireless config editior, and may include the needed firmware.

Yep, I got my wireless working a little while ago. The drivers were not included for mine, but as soon as I did install the SerialMonkey driver, configuration was extremely easy.

Looks like going open for Suse didn't on this occasion translate in thourough testing. Why don't they try doing a Live CD for all this hardware detection/configuration issues before they go RC ?
