i burned it in imgburn in windows on a dvd r and a dvd rw at another they both did the same thing that i described above all of thb burns were completely left alone nothing else was going on
i also burned the same disks in pclinuxos it did the same thing i also burned the image to a cd r and still didn't work i have also downloaded it numerous times
If you havn't checked the md5sum, you do not know if the download is good or bad. With a bad download, it will not matter where you burn it or how, it will fail. Check the md5usm of the downloaded file.
I suggest you explore Google for Windows problems. I searched for "xp md5sum" and came up with this link, http://154.ca/otr/iso/md5sum.shtml. I assumed you are using XP, your machine being older. I think you can follow the instructions on that page for a satisfactory result.
If you used capital letters and standard punctuation, your post would be both easier to read and understand, and likely attract more attention and a better response. This forum is not your mobile phone.
Don't throw the monitor out of the Window... that won't solve much anyhow.
Is there a mediacheck option on the boot menu of the OpenSuSE liveCD there used to be anyway, if it's still there run it to make sure that the media you've downloaded is good first.
If it is try booting in opensusefailsafe and see if it will load to the command line.
Downloaded two different ISOs (DVD and KDE CD) with Ubuntu, burnt ISOs on the appropriate media with K3b, verified the burn and checked md5sum on both
I put them and boot from the CD. They run fine through the welcom screen. When they start loading, the progress bar gets about halfway across, and then, the screen goes black and nothing happens (even with "Failsafe").
I am running Linux Mint 7 (just playing aaround) on a portable USB hard drive (Toshiba) right now. Ubuntu 9.04 is loaded on my internal 80 gig hard drive and runs fine both with the native Gnome desktop (and XFCE 4).
I have been experimenting with OpenSUSE 11.1 because I would like to replace Ubuntu with 11.2 when it is released because I want KDE and Kubuntu hasn't impressed me.
I really want to try OpenSUSE and would appreciate any help/suggestions.

i am starting to notice that the live cds and dvds have the phrase i686 isn't my system an i386 does this explain why it won't work
because the live cd that said i6686 worked on the newer computers at my school but they have inel duo cores not athlons like i do
i found an old version of suse and this time the image says i386 maybe it'll work this time

There was last time I looked, although that has been a time; I don't see them dropping that in a hurry. It's a bit time-consuming, but it is a good idea in cases like these.

If you can get to a terminal (on one of the function buttons), ot their is the option to 'display instalation details', the last thing that appears on the screen will be at the stage that it falls over, so if that can be determined, we would have a much better chance of making a worthwhile statement on what is likely to be going wrong.

Historically, kubuntu has not done as good a job with kde as Ubuntu does with Gnome. There have been signs of progress, but there are still rough edges. In my view kde 4.x isn't really as refined as it needs to be for ordinary end users yet, but by the time 11.2 comes out, things will be better so your plan has at least that going for it.
Even so, most of the stuff that is immediately apparent to the end user is customisation and if you are prepared to spend a little time tweaking kde, you can get to a similar position as you would be choosing a different distro.
I suspect that in the case of baronobeefdip, its an 'idiosyncrasy' with the chipset/video that needs some tweaking at boot time to work around. In the case of juliet charley its also Nvidia video, which might be indicative of a problem with video rather than anything else, but it could still be a kernel tweak.
well just to let everyone know, i'm giving up (also with ubuntu) they just won't work with my system, besides i tried them on my schools most recent computers, and it turns out that i don't like them as much as the disro i use currently (pclinuxos 2009)
