Why is Suse publishing a product with so many problems still.

I don't get it with the large amount of money, and man power that Novell has is still publishing products as the Suse 10.1 with problems so simple. I mean come on. For example ATI cards, shouldn't be the date that we stop having problems with the video drivers of such a common brand in a Mainstream Linux.

And i just started using it, who knows what other problems i will continue to find. Is it that Linux is destined to be a Server OS only. Simple users can't use this without spending hours configuring all the hardware and installing things that didn't came out of the box.

That's the freaking reason why we linux users are still considered abnormals because we like a different system that is not Windows.

I've never heard of Linux users being classed as abnormal. Usually I find that they are actually admired and considered very technical. As for the Suse 10.1 thing, there have been many threads about its problems on this site and articles on external sites.

The problem with ATI cards is not just limited to Suse, but all Linux distros and other Unix like OSes. This problem will continue until ATI works with Xorg (like nvidia) to make sure that their graphics cards are well supported. Personally I would have thought that most Linux users are wise enough to stay clear of ATI graphics card if they have had bad experiences with them before. Nvidia supports Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, so nvidia would be a better choice than ATI.

As for Linux needing tweaking, this depends on the distro. There are some distros that don't need tweaking at all (Linspire and Xandros come to mind), so maybe choosing one of these would be desirable than using something like Suse which tries to be an all round distro.

Problems in openS 10.1 release R fixed, R they on new DL of DVD iso, still need updtd

red.., Cuase U only talk w/ linusers?? R the fixes of initial release problems noted here & elsewhere Included in a currrent DL of 10.1??
AMD recently bought ATI, hopefully things turn 4 better, as AMD is S L O W w/ new M$ vista! IF AMD+ATI works good, maybe better for Linux & OPEN?

Mot.. I have openS on LT (in sig) & on DT, granted my Mainboard is server oriented, Tyan S2865 (me only as DT w/ LAN I hope), 6800GT Dual DVI.
TYAN=OS setting in BIOS for Linux, but M$ & Linux work either setting so far.

they haven't re-spun the iso's, the "fixes" occur during the first online update(s)

The only place I would say I chat with Linux users is LQ and a couple of other forums where I lurk. I spend the majority of my time dealing/chatting with Windows users, because I build, support and maintain Windows based systems. :)

Not wishing to be a Grade A here but trying to understand this type of English I can forsee a day shortly in the future where the only communication will be via Monosyllabic words done in "Text Messaging Newspeak".

As someone who has never sent a text message in his life (and doesn't intend to) this type of post is harder to understand than reading the most convoluted "C" code.

Cheers

That makes me smile when I recall how my parents used to fuss about all of those acronyms and abbreviations that started popping up. They called it alphabet soup. Things like DOT DPW really had their heads spinning. :) If only they could see it now!!!!!

At any rate, I'm more than a little concerned about people bashing the various Linux distros over alleged poor quality.
I use Fedora, Suse, Mandriva, Slack, Debian/Knoppix and as for me and my house, Linux has never been better!!!!

Can't wait to see what's coming this next year.

This again seems like a pointless rant from someone who hasn't installed the primary updates Novell released for 10.1.
