I'm a newbie about to install SuSE 9.2 for the first time, and I wonder if the experts out there could recommend which so-called optional packages are "must-haves" or "should-haves"? I noticed during a brief encounter with 9.1 that the installation is very bare-bones, and I wasn't able to do very simple things without immediately installing optional packages (the 'make' package, for example, and I'm sure there are many others).

If anyone has any specific advice, or if anyone knows a good resource for a newbie like me to read about things like this, I'd be very grateful.

Actually, my installation of 9.2 went so much better than with 9.1 that this question seems kinda moot now.

All the 'basic' stuff you'd expect in an install (make, etc) was there this time. Plus I went out of my way to get some other stuff, like java and C++.

So nevermind.
