Where is Gnome hiding?
I have recently switched from Fedroa Core2 to SuSE 9.1 and used Gnome previously but can't find how to get into Gnome in SuSE. I have instructions for setting up an ISDN connection in RH9 but doesn't relate to YaST.
Have searched all items in menu and can't find a thing. If your reply invloves text mode please be very specific as I don't have a lot of success in text. Thanks in advance. |
Go into install/remove software in yast, at the top left under filter, make sure it is set to selections, and then make sure gnome system is checked off in the list on the left....that should install gnome from your cds
If you are running SUSE 9.1 PErsonal, it gets a bit more confusing, post back if you are |
Did that and found Gnome was ticked in the left hand column but gnome2-usr-docs 2.4.1 was not ticked in the right "package summary" area. Ticked and run the CD. Do I need to reboot to get it to show up in the system menu?

Normally u dont have to...ur thinking of windows there :p. The only time (normally) you absolutly have to reboot your machine is when you compile a new kernel or install a new one and want to switch to it. Other than that you don't normally have to worry about it.

Well I have rebooted to no avail. Still can't find a button to push to go to Gnome. Apart from the usr-docs, it was all installed initially but there is no where I can find a way to access Gnome.
Thanks for your patience. |
See if Gnome exists in the Session Type pulldown menu at your KDM login screen.

Yes!! Found it at last. I had set up auto login during instal so didn't have the login screen in my face all the time. This is where the help files etc fall down and SuSE are no use unless you have a lot of money.
Many thanks, Gordon |
im having the same problem as this guy, only in my session pulldown menu my only options are Restart X Server and ShutDown...i installed Gnome from YaST ....how do i make it login to gnome?
