What is "powersaved" for?

The process "powersaved" seems to be running a lot on my computer and consuming a majority of my process bandwidth. Do I need this process, and if not, how do I shut it off?

Thanks in advance for your help!

powersaved is the thing that changes the cpu speed and other things so that the system consumes less power.

If you're on a desktop and don't care about advanced power management (power saving) features, you do not need it. If you're on a laptop and run off of the battery often, then you will definitely want to keep it.

But how do I safely disable this feature. I went to "Power Management" in YAST, but I don't see a disable option.

Thanks.

If you have the icon in your sys tray (the area by the clock on the taskbar) you will see either a mains plug or a battery symbol. Right click, and select "Configure Powersave". Select the "General" tab, and in the "Autostart" section un-tick "Powersave starts automatically at login", and tick "never aske me again at exit". Then click "OK". Then right-click the icon again and select "Quit". If it asks you about starting up at login, select "No". That will stop it starting up again, which is the same as disabling.

It's a daemon, so you can also disable it in YaST > System > System Services (Run level).

I don't remember seeing a icon in my system tray, but I'll check again. In any case, I should be able to do it from YAST with your suggestion.

Thanks.
