Question what DOES SuSE stand for actually and to you?

I myself have forgotten what the acronym SuSE stands for.

I know SuSE is a great distro and that's what I think it means to me because of it's neat features and gui wizards.

Back to the acronym though. Anyone know what " S u S E " stands for? And what the lower cased "U"??

I have no idea what "SuSE" stands for specifically, but to me, the whole release stands for "it just works".

I dubbed 9.3 the "it just works" release after installing it. I am SO impressed with 9.3 that even though I initially installed for free from the FTP version, I went out and purchased the boxed set. SuSE deserves to be richly rewarded for putting together such a solid and functional release.

EVERYTHING just works, and by "EVERYTHING" I specifically refer to the things that always mess up Linux releases - webcams, zip disks, USB drives, displays, printers, scanners, .... EVERYTHING just works in SuSE 9.3 when you plug it in. I am simply amazed. Quite aside from the hardware support, the array of supplied apps is just dazzling as well; you would likely have to go to Debian Sarge to get a wider selection.

SuSE 9.3 is fabulous - I can't recommend it enough. SuSE = "it just works"!

I guess no one knows what SUSE stands for. I couldn't find it in the docs that came with my other versions of suse. Weird. I guess I should search the novell site to see if they have an explanation then.

And since SuSE was taken over by Novell, the question is moot anyway.

It is SUSE now, all caps. I remember reading somewhere it is an acronym for a long German word, but other than that I can't tell you. For me, sadly, 9.3 was the straw that broke the camels back. I'm happily using Mepis now. Glad to hear you all had good luck with it. I sure didn't.

SUSE Linux (and the company that maintains it) has been known as "SuSE" and "S.u.S.E.". It originally stood for "System und Software Entwicklung", which is German for "System and Software Development"
