What's the difference between Gnome desktop and Ximian desktop

I have Suse 9.2 Pro on my computer and I run Gnome 2.6. Upon doing some research, I found that Novell has a number of projects going on but they all seem to be the same things just with a different name. Such as Novell Desktop, I think its basically Suse Linux with a new name. Then there's Gnome and Ximian. From my understanding Ximian is based off Gnome but because I haven't actually seen a Ximian desktop, I don't know what makes the 2 different. If there's a difference is a major one or is it very minor?

Ximian did a customised Gnome desktop, I believe it also integrated with their Red Carpet package management. Novell own SuSE and, I think, Ximian and so it's all one now.
