Warning --SUSE 10 beta 4 -laptops with INTEL SIS chipset

Forgot to mention if your laptop has the above chipset you might get the same error as 9.3 --No Hard Disks

Solution

1) again (like installing 9.3) have Kernel boot option

insmod=ide-generic

and 2) REMOVE PCMCIA cards from slot -- first time through I had a wireless card in the slot.

Otherwise as specified previously --this beta (4) EVERYTHING works.

You can do either an update or a fresh install -I'd recommend you try both if you've got the time and machines available --remember it IS a beta so expect some hiccups and be pleasantly surprised that there doesn't appear to be any nasties in thsi one.

Cheers

Why didn't you just create one thread for the beta 4 release?

1kyle 09-07-2005 09:36 AM

Sometimes you don't have tiime to post all the observations at once -- Internet availability -- other work etc etc.

You only get a chance to do this after the whole install --and that might be 3 or 4 days later depending again on how much time you have / other things to do etc etc.

If I come across a snag which could cost some people time then I can't see what's wrong in posting the info --if I can't find the solution maybe somebody else can.

Actually I was only trying to help people from wasting their time -- if you don't want or need the info then fine

I just wish some of this info had been available to me --it would have saved a LOT of time.

I hope when you find some info YOU need you'll be greatful to the person who posted it.

Cheers

I just thought it would be easier to follow if it was all consolidated in one thread - My beta 4 experience or something
