Very slow internet look ups

I've read many posts on this subject on many forums and tried the solutions but to no avail. When I start Firefox it takes 30 to 45 seconds to show my home page. When I click a bookmark the same thing happens. Sometimes it times out and says page can not be found check url. I'm running Suse 9.2 Pro. I've done the IPV6 disables in modprobe.conf and Firefox itself. I've changed my MTU to 1492, uninstalled my NIC and reinstalled. I've checked my DNS entries to make sure they match my router's. I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port on a DSL connection. The Windows PCs have no problem at all. When I can finally get to a site that checks speed the test shows download speed of 720 kbs and 122 upload. Which is par for the advertised speeds of 768/136. I've tried so many different fixes I could have done the right one but messed it up the previous fix. If anyone knows which files need to be checked and for what I would be indebted to you. I do not what to resort to using windows for the Web.

I'm in the same boat. Once in a while I get decent page finds & loads, but generally it's excrutiatingly slow. The same machine has no probs with the 'Net in Win98.

I've tried every solution that I've found on the 'Net, including the DNS settings, disabling IPv6, etc. Once I'm connected it's generally right on target with the rated speed of my line, but I can go make a cup of tea and come back before the page is found.

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 routed to a DSL hookup, so I'm inclined to think it's not a problem specific to any one flavor of Linux. I too would hate to have to resort back to Billware for my Internet access. That would mean dropping Linux because I ain't rebooting all the time...

It seems that with all the changes I made trying to fix this problem the first change some how reverted back to it's original setting. That which was the IPV6 disable in Firefox. I checked it again and it was set to false, I changed it back to true and my browser is back to normal at least it has been for the last two days.
