3) the cd enabled computer is another matter. I assume its an IDE drive as well.
if you have a burner, grab knoppix and boot it to see what it sees.
however I think you need to specify your RAM and cpu speed as I suspect that suse is too demanding.
4) if I am right you may need to see if you can do a text install.
5) but slackware is ideal for old hardware check it out
