USB transfer speeds incredibly slow

I'm leaving this post up because I'm sure others have had this problem.
I have USB 2.0 ports that worked fine with SuSE 9.3, but with SuSE 10.0, the transfer rates are occurring at around 10 KB/s. Of course, this is utterly unacceptable. I don't know how to fix this problem, but I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me: as a starting point, here's the output of lsmod.
