USB Mouse :: 9.3 :: Not working

OK, I've probably visitted every place on the net, with no help. Here's the deal:
I've got a stupid simple mouse (Genius), USB interface, and it doesnt wanna work in Suse 9.3 .Not working at all.
Tried sax2, tried yast, tried restarting without and then with it. Tried almost everything.
anyone, any ideas?

Not really a suggestion that will help you out all that much, but I would suggest maybe getting a USB to PS2 adapter. You can find them for less than 5 dollars at most computer stores. That way you can eliminate the problem. I'm not too expert at setting up USB devices in Linux.

Could you check in /var/log/boot.msg if the first line are as that ?

Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.6.11.4-20a-smp
Loaded 23371 symbols from /boot/System.map-2.6.11.4-20a-smp.
Symbols match kernel version 2.6.11.
No module symbols loaded - kernel modules not enabled.

because I have the same problem

and I am looking to know why the modules are not recognize at the boot time.
An short time at boot, the USBmouse is ok (red light). Other way if I boot in single I have a USBmouse.
I shall contact you if I find the solution.
Yves.

I had the same problem before for my USB targus mouse I was able to fix the problem by downloading and installing the usbutils and now automatically read my mouse plugged in.
here the directly link to the rpm: http://www.lll.lu/Images/LLL-9.3/sus....70-8.i586.rpm

jakkals 05-20-2005 07:15 PM

thanks for the help guys, though: i already do have usbutils installed and --force didn't make any difference :(
Whats the difference between 9.2 and 9.3 in regard to this matter?

Lasker 05-20-2005 08:12 PM

well, I also recomend to u to move to 9.3, I never used before 9.2, so I can't say anything about it, but to me I'm happy with this version. but really I don
t understand why is not working for u and is working for me is a mistery, maybe because 9.3 have the lastest version of the kernel, gnome and KDE

Are the modules ehci_hcd and uhci_hcd loaded?
lsmod | grep hci
If not:
modprobe ehci_hcd
modprobe uhci_hcd

Dear all,

Saturday, YOU has proposed to install the package usbutils, I have selected it, and ... After the reboot, USB worked perfectly with SuSE 9.3 on my laptop.
Thanks 'YOU'.
I do not understand, because I had recompiled the kernel following the procedure: make clean bzImage;make modules; INSTALL_PATH!/boot make install; make modules_install; reboot. May be was the package usbutils missing ?

I'm using 9.3 with a Logitech Click mouse and sometimes the system boots up with the cursor frozen in the middle of the screen. I've found that Alt-F2 for the run window lets me run yast. I then use the cursor key to drop down to hardware and the tab to switch to the devices. Cursor keys again are used to select the mouse. Return brings the mouse configuration up and the mouse works without my doing anything else. I have no reason for this behavior but, I'm sure there is one.

I too have a usb microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse and when I had 9.2 they worked great, I even got the scroll wheel to work, but now that I have upgraded to 9.3, I have to wait until SUSE has loaded, then go into Yast and select the mouse. This also happens if I switch user...

I Had use YOU a long time ago, and the mouse and all usb devices was recognized after the update of kernel proposed by YOU. Of course I had complile this new one, and after that all my USB devices work fine, except an stupid ImageTank from Level. Good luck. Yves.
