I'm not exactly an expert myself, but I can tell you that usb dsl and Linux don't seem to go together. I submitted a post in the software forum, and received no answers. The threads (at any site) I found through google all recommended not trying. Even on XP, it doesn't work reliably. I was always being told it couldn't reach my ISP's mail server.

My motherboard has a built in NIC, you might check and see if yours does. Yast will tell you if you go to the network setting. Otherwise, spend the $40 (US) for a new one.

If you have the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem, try this http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/
it tells you which files to download and you just run a script, enter your VPI/VCI numbers and username and password and it sets everything up for you. I used the script with SuSE 9.1 and internet works great.

good luck.
