has anyone encountered any serious errors or know something that would make it a bad idea to upgrade from suse 9.1 to 9.2? there are a few features that i really like about 9.2, and i do plan to install it, but i would like to keep my installed programs/settings/etc. would it be wise to upgrade or reformat my / partition (/home is a separate partition) instead? any advice is appreciated.
I've had an experience of trying out Suse 9.1 and 9.2. I don't know why this is so, but in my 1 month of having suse 9.2 as my desktop I encountered a lot of problems like it crashes almost everytime i copy files to my ipod. There were also times when 9.2 would just crash for no particular reason. I never encountered crashes on 9.1 nor on other distros that i've tried (ubuntu, mandrake, knoppix). It's really wierd but I don't think I'm the only one who has problems with 9.2. Try to check out the distro reviews section: http://www.linuxquestions.org/review...hp?product=374
i have read that before, but thanks. what i'm wondering is if there's anyone who has actually done the upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 using the upgrade option when you put in the 9.2 install cd. if so, what are your experiences? were there programs/settings that were ok but stopped doing what they're supposed to after the upgrade? that sort of thing is what i'm curious about, thanks.
I've upgraded 9.1 pro to 9.2 pro with the 5 cd set and it went perfect! There were no problems, the only program that is not in 9.2 anymore is Pixieplus (as far as i know). Compared to 9.1, 9.2 has a few extra's e.g Bluetooth support, IR support and some upgrades.
If you choose for upgrade, your data will not be harmed. What will happen when you repartition, i don't know. But when you want to repartition, always back up your data! (when you want to repartition, it's maybe better to back up your data and perform a new installation).
How well would the upgrade go going from Suse Pro 9.1 (installed from DVD) to 9.2 using Suse Personal 9.2 on CD (edit: make that DVD now that Suse has the DVD ISO posted), or should I buy 9.2 Pro on DVD?
When I've run Linux in the past I've always upgraded individual packages by hand, and right now my system is stable and I need to minimize downtime, so I'd like to try the update feature.
