Upgrade Q - running OpenSuSE 10 and was wondering...
 

if I have a copy of OpenSuSE 10.1 could I just 'upgrade' my current system instead of a full installation? I'm not positive but I think during the install of v 10.0 I saw something about an update/upgrade option. Am I wrong?...If I'm wrong, how can I upgrade to v 10.1 without destroying my current system?

Several solutions:
1. Use VirtualMachine (VMWare)
2. Using partitions - install it to a different drive/partition and dual boot.
3. Copy all your /home/user directory and do a fresh install.

If you are comfortable with setting up your system - I recommend #3. Also - use SMART Package manager after the initial install for software updates/upgrades.

Otherwise use #2 or #1 - but still try to get Smart working.

I would wait until 10.2 comes out before you update. Suse did a really crappy job with 10.1 (almost as bad as Microsoft Windows ME).
Their package manager was broken when shipped and ZEN (the update management daemon) is based on an immature version of mono. There are just too many bugs to work out to get a stable system. I was using 10.1 for a while and downgraded to 10.0. Give them some time to work out the problems with Zen.

P.S. There are also problems with CUPS 1.2 and KDE 3.5.

I had done a fresh install of 10.1 on another machine of mine and it was very slow in comparsion with 10.0...so along with your comments (thanks) I think I just leave well enough alone (I had a tough time installing some packages also with 10.0)....if it aint broke dont fix it... :)
