Upgrade from Opensuse 13.1 to 13.2 failure

I have followed all the steps needed to upgrade Opensuse 13.1 to 13.2 however after wasting all my download quota on downloading all the packages etc for my upgrade it failed to upgrade to 13.2 it finished downloading then just stopped and didn't install what to do next some help would be greatly appreciated. I am naturally a Slackware user and I never have any troubles with Slackware I thought I would try Opensuse out and it seems was a bad idea Thanks in advance for all your help

did you read the release notes for 13.2 ?
13.2 is diverting off the normal development path with 13.2

13.2 is closer to a MAJOR upgrade and not a normal "minor" upgrade

this is mentioned in the release notes

if you really want to "try" a inplace upgrade
1)
do a full system backup
2)
download the install dvd
3)
use the dvd to "upgrade an existing install"

but
do to some changes EXPECT ERRORS

spend the next week or two tracking them down

mainly if you use "packman" and allowed "vender change"
or any of the other third party repos

Warning:

--- third party repos!!!!!

the Devel:gcc repo for 13.2 DOSE NOT!!!! have the same packages that are in the 13.1 repo
-- this WILL!!!!!! cause problems !!!!!

Also there is a QT 4 VS qt5 issues with headers and libs

a inplace upgrade can leave the qt4 headers but think they are the qt5 ones
-- fixable but a mess

Sounds like doing a Ubuntu style distro upgrade with the procedure you gave me using an install DVD I will give it a go and report back to you I will have to wait now till I have download quota to be able to download again. I have used Ubuntu in the past for experimental reasons and upgrading was far easier using an install dvd than actually waiting hours to download and install at the same time. Slackware has never been an issue either upgrading via the internet and I have been using that distro for a long long time. All good thank you for your help I will post a update when I can and thanks again for the reply for assistance cheers

Interesting. I used the instructions at http://www.unixmen.com/upgrade-opens...opensuse-13-1/ as a template, substituting 13.2/13.1 as necessary in place of 13.1/12.3 and had no issues upgrading multiple servers at work and both my desktops at home.

As John VV WARNS...

There is a big difference betweem 13.1 and 13.2 ! as 13.2 uses a new format system.

Was my usual to do clean update into two new partitions, missing an eary warning and option, found lost entire HD.

Only reward was for backing up all my criticals elsewhere :-)
