Updating opensuse 10.2
Is Yast an acronym for yet another sh*tty tool?
I've got a clean install of openSUSE 10.2. I haven't installed anything yet. All I want is my stupid development tools.
Why are there half a dozen options for software installation in the Yast control center?
And why do all of these tools take minutes to start up?
Why is there not a couple repositories configured out of the box? (Currently I have the DVD source configured, and after poking around an hour so managed to get a YUM mirror configured, gatech.edu)
And what's the point of a package management system if it can't manage the stupid packages!?
Yast Control Center -> Software Management, change filter to Package Groups, navigate to Development / Tools, right-click in the list and choose All in this list -> Install. Go to File Menu, then Quit -- Save Changes. Now I am presented with a series of conflicts, so I choose not to install the packages for which dependencies fail (I figure they're not gonna work without their dependencies anyway). Then after clicking "delete" or "do not install" three thousand times I give up.
So far, suse appears to be pretty, but crap otherwise. Never had any kinds of issues with Fedora, CentOS or Ubuntu.
